The Kashmir Valley is referred to as "heaven on earth." One of Pakistan's most visited tourist destinations is Kashmir, which is a must-see destination for anyone who appreciates beauty. Regretfully, since 1947, it has been plagued by territorial dispute.India and Pakistan have been at odds over Kashmir's independence since the subcontinent was divided. With each year that goes by, the two nations' conflict intensifies. Every year on February 5, Pakistan observes Kashmir Day, also known as Kashmir Solidarity Day, as a public holiday. Its main goals are to honor Kashmiri martyrs who lost their lives for the region's independence and to demonstrate Pakistan's solidarity and support for the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir and their continuous battle for independence.

People in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and Pakistan celebrate Kashmir Day. People around the world, mostly Kashmiris, mark this internationally recognized day. Public processions, special prayers for the liberation of Kashmir at mosques, and demonstrations against Indian tyranny in Kashmir are all held on this day. There are gatherings where people sing slogans in solidarity with the Kashmiri people and in support of the Kashmiri liberation movement.
The creation of a human chain along all major highways from Pakistan to AJK is another frequent sight. On all of the main crossings into AJK from Pakistan, people form a human chain by standing in rows with their hands clasped together. In order to reassure Kashmiris that they are not fighting for their independence alone, this represents solidarity and unity.
Additionally, festivals and other cultural events are organized to promote Kashmiri customs and culture. Special programs, talk shows, dramas, and Kashmiri songs about the persecution and brutalities endured by Kashmiris throughout the years are shown on news and entertainment networks. Students can voice their opinions and suggestions for resolving Kashmiri-related issues at debate contests and discussion forums hosted by educational institutions.

In Pakistan and AJK, Kashmir Day is a public holiday. Banks, businesses, educational institutions, and federal and provincial government offices are still closed. Nonetheless, on this day, some international corporations carry on with their regular business operations.
Although public transportation is available every day, major cities frequently experience traffic congestion. Parades and processions on Kashmir Day continue to block major routes and streets.

Azad Jammu Kashmir, or "Az Liberated" in Urdu, is a region of Kashmir. Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir is what many Indians refer to it as. With its own parliament, head of state, and governing bodies, AJK is officially recognized by Pakistan as a distinct state.
Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab chief minister and leader of the opposition, called for the first Kashmir Day celebration to be held in 1990. Sharif urged people to pray for the victory of the Kashmiri liberation cause and called for a nationwide strike in protest of India's control of Kashmir. Kashmir Day has been honored annually since February 5 was proclaimed a public holiday by the Pakistan People's Party.
